Retirement can be one of the best stages of your life. It can also be complicated, and at times stressful, if you are not educated about your benefits and have not done the proper planning. Understanding the fundamentals of your CalPERS retirement benefits is a good first step toward a happy and fruitful retirement. This publication describes retirement benefits and retirement benefit formulas for local miscellaneous members. Local miscellaneous members are those who are employed by a public agency or special district that has contracted with CalPERS, who are not involved in law enforcement, fire suppression, the protection of public safety, or employed in a position designated by law as local safety. You deserve to understand the full spectrum of retirement and death benefits available for you and your beneficiary (or beneficiaries). This publication will help educate you about your retirement formulas and benefits.
