WHAT IS THE YOUTH ACTION COUNCIL? The Youth Action Council (YAC) is a group of teen developmental asset leaders from ages 13 to 18 that give a voice to teens in the community by building assets one teen at a time. The purpose of YAC is to serve as the prominent voice representing the youth in our community. YAC helps the teens of Morgan Hill recognize that they are valued and appreciated as a part of the community (Asset #7: Community Values Youth - young person perceives that adults in the community value youth). As a group of dedicated teen leaders, YAC will communicate the desires of teens and create programs and special events where teens can cultivate Developmental Assets through building a bond with other teens and members of the community. YAC SUBCOMMITTEES: ■ 50+ Ball - lively dance party for adults aged 50 and over. ■ Community Engagement- free community events at the Magical Bridge Playground designed for all ages and abilities, support the Adaptive Dances for youth (12+) and adults with disabilities, and new event/project ideas to keep our community engaged are welcome. ■ Public Speaking - presentations to the City Council every month about the 41 Developmental Assets and other teen related topics. ■ Youth Leadership Morgan Hill & YAC Recruitment program - an interactive 4-day leadership development program. HOW TO BECOME A YAC MEMBER? All students interested in becoming YAC Members must first complete the Youth Leadership Morgan Hill program during the summer in June. The YLMH registration is available in March every year.
