BUILDING DEVELOPMENT ASSETS ONE TEEN AT A TIME! Make A Difference!
HOW TO BECOME A YAC MEMBER? All students interested in becoming YAC Members must first complete the Youth Leadership Morgan Hill program during the summer in July The application packet is available in March every year A completed registration packet is due at the time of registration REQUIREMENTS ■ Must be a resident of the City of Morgan Hill, San Martin, or an enrolled student in the Morgan Hill Unified School District ■ Must be 13 by July 1st and not older than 18 ■ Commit time and energy A minimum of 6 hours each month including mandatory monthly meetings and subcommittee meetings, and participation at community and Recreation Department events It will be the members’ choice to decide what events or programs they wish to sign up for to complete the required time ■ Must be available during the year from September to May WHEN AND WHERE YAC MEETS? WHAT IS THE YOUTH ACTION COUNCIL?
The Youth Action Council (YAC) is a group of teen developmental asset leaders from ages 13 to 18 that give a voice to teens in the community by building assets one teen at a time The purpose of YAC is to serve as the prominent voice representing the youth in our community YAC helps the teens of Morgan Hill recognize that they are valued and appreciated as a part of the community (Asset #7: Community Values Youth - young person perceives that adults in the community value youth) As a group of dedicated teenagers, YAC will communicate the desires of teens and create programs and special events where teens can cultivate Developmental Assets through building a bond with other teens and members of the community YAC subcommittees are 50+ Ball – a dance party for adults 50+, Community Outreach – free community events at the Magical Bridge Playground, Adaptive Dances, and Youth Leadership Morgan Hill program YAC Members also participate doing month presentation to the City Council every month about the Developmental Assets
