Youth Action Council 2025-2026 Recruitment Afterschool Leadership Program Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm

YOUTH LEADERSHIP MORGAN HILL (YLMH) YLMH is an empowering four-day leadership program tailored for teens aged 13 to 18 who are eager to enhance vital life and work skills, such as leadership, public speaking, professionalism, teamwork, communication, time management, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. To qualify for an application and interview with the Youth Action Council for the 2025-2026 school year, full participation in all four days of the YLMH program is essential. Our program instills a sense of empowerment in teens, providing them invaluable opportunities to actively contribute to and serve their community. We are committed to helping young leaders forge meaningful connections in a dynamic environment specifically designed to cultivate leadership skills. Participants will engage with city officials, including the Mayor and City Manager, as well as other influential community leaders. Additionally, we partner with local non-profit organizations in the mental health and leadership sectors to equip youth with essential resources and tools. Inclusivity is a top priority for us, and we proudly offer scholarships to ensure all interested teens have the chance to participate, regardless of financial circumstances. The Youth Action Council (YAC) is an inspiring group of dedicated teen leaders, ages 13 to 18, committed to amplifying the voices of teenagers in the Morgan Hill community. YAC fosters leadership and empowers its members to plan impactful community events through various committees. These committees include: ■ 50+ Ball - lively dance party for adults aged 50 and older. ■ Community Engagement- free community events at the Magical Bridge Playground designed for all ages and abilities, support the Adaptive Dances for youth (12+) and adults with disabilities, and new event/

project ideas to keep our community engaged are welcome. ■ Public Speaking – monthly presentations to the City Council about the 41 Developmental Assets and other teen-related topics. ■ Senior Enrichment Community Initiative (SECI): offers enjoyable programs and events for senior citizens to promote joy and foster inclusivity. ■ Youth Leadership Morgan Hill/YAC Recruitment program - an interactive 4-day leadership development program. By participating in YAC, members earn valuable community service hours and gain enriching experiences that elevate their school life, personal growth, and future endeavors. REQUIREMENTS ■ Must be a student enrolled in Morgan Hill Unified School District or attend a private/charter school in Morgan Hill. Also, must be a resident of the City of Morgan Hill. 70% of the available spots are reserved for Morgan Hill students and residents, while the remaining 30% can be applied for by residents of San Martin and students who reside in Morgan Hill but attend schools outside of the city limits. ■ Must be 13 years old by July 1st and not older than 18. ■ Commit time and energy. A minimum of 6 hours each month including mandatory monthly meetings, subcommittee meetings, and participation at community and Recreation Department events. It will be the members’ choice to decide what events or programs they wish to sign up for to complete the required time. ■ Must be available during the year from September to June. In June will be only for the YLMH subcommittee members. WHEN AND WHERE YAC MEETS? YAC monthly meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month (except for the second Tuesday in September and January) from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Regular program hours with YAC Advisor are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm at the Centennial Recreation Center (CRC) (171 W. Edmundson Avenue).
