Division Description Code Compliance, previously an activity of the Building Division, was established as its own Division beginning in FY 2016-17 with Building Official oversight. Code Compliance is responsible for enforcing building code violations and complaints/concerns and/or violation of the Morgan Hill Municipal Code.

Common concerns and complaints can be:  Work without permits  Home occupations  Junk/debris in the front yard  Structures (illegal garage conversions, additions, accessory structures)  Maintenance on vacant lots  Overgrown vegetation and weeds  Sign Enforcement

FY 2018-19 and 2019-20 Accomplishments  Continued to assist with homeless encampment clean-ups and large vehicle/RV parking issues  As of the beginning of the third quarter of FY 19-20, 538 code compliance cases were opened, 494 cases were resolved and closed  Coordinated with the Planning Division to create a sign brochure as a handout to inform businesses and community members about sign regulations  Coordinated with the City Attorney’s office to begin resolution of long-standing code violations on large parcel in the south of the City FY 2020-21 and 2021-22 Activity Goals  Continue to improve functionality of TRAKiT for Code Compliance management and tracking of cases (Fostering a Positive Organizational Culture)  Continue to focus on opportunities for increased Code Compliance functionality (Preserving and Cultivating Public Trust)  Modify the policies and procedures manual for code compliance post administrative citation process approval (Preserving and Cultivating Public Trust)  Continue to look for refinements on website for ease of use to the public (Preserving and Cultivating Public Trust)  Create additional brochures in coordination with the Planning Division and Building Division to increase the public’s knowledge of various code requirements (Supporting our Youth, Seniors, and Entire Community)  Utilize the GIS system for documenting code compliance activity and concerns (Fostering a Positive Organizational Culture)
