010.2180

Division Description The Community Services Division is responsible for department-wide strategic planning, park planning and acquisition, working with the community’s non-profit and public service organizations, providing staff support to the Parks and Recreation Commission (PRC) and Library, Culture, and Arts Commission (LCAC), and non-revenue generating program management. The Community Services Division is responsible for the management of several community support programs, including the Centennial Recreation Teen Center, Centennial Recreation Senior Center and Older Adult Programs, Skate Park, Park Place After School Program, Youth Action Council and various community events. None of these programs are supported through program revenue. The Centennial Recreation Senior Center has been the hub for older adult services since 2006. In June of 2016 the City of Morgan Hill earned the Age-Friendly City designation from the World Health Organization and was instrumental in helping to lead other cities within Santa Clara County to become Age-Friendly. The Senior Center has evolved over the past few years to include more comprehensive Older Adult Programs and Services. As part of the City’s Age-Friendly designation we have committed to a continual evaluation and planning cycle to develop programs and services to address needs in the area of housing, transportation, social participation, respect and social inclusion, civic participation and employment, communication and information, community support and health services, and outdoor spaces and buildings. This budget reflects continued effort in improving communication, establishing partnerships and collaborations, and removing transportation barriers by identifying potential solutions and transportation alternatives. • Led the successful update and adoption of the 2017 Bikeways, Trails, Parks and Recreation Master Plan • Successfully transitioned the Boys and Girls Club/El Toro Youth Center to the Friendly Inn and transitioned Friendly Inn tenants to alternative locations • The Youth Action Council organized a successful Youth Leadership Morgan Hill event and a 12th and 13 th Annual Senior Citizens Balls • Facilitated an average of 4,000 annual entries at the Skate/BMX Park • Co-hosted the annual Morgan Hill Values Youth event • Continue to offer a well-attended after school program at Park Place apartments, in partnership with Discovery Counseling Center • Offered an annual three-part Summer Fun in the Park series at Galvan Park • Purchased property adjacent to the Aquatics Center and Outdoor Sports Center for use for parking and potential expansion of sports facilities • Developed and opened three downtown Parks and Trails • Earned Morgan Hill designation as an Age-Friendly City • Increased Senior Center program participation from a monthly average of 2,500 to 4,000 FY 2016-17 and 2017-18 Accomplishments
