Division Description The Cable Services Division supports cable television customer service in Morgan Hill, administers the property use agreements held by cellular providers on City property, and responds to queries from the public on a variety of telecommunications issues. In the past, this division also administered the City’s agreement for public access television services. With the closure of the City’s public access provider, this activity no longer continues. FY 2016-17 and 2017-18 Accomplishments • Assisted customers in obtaining customer service from Charter Cable and Frontier as needed • Renewed property use agreements with Crown Castle, Verizon, and AT&T Wireless • Began responding to solicitations from small cell companies interested in siting infrastructure on City-owned property FY 2018-19 and 2019-20 Activity Goals • Respond to queries for new cell tower site opportunities and new small cell infrastructure opportunities on City properties and negotiate agreements as needed (Maintaining Fiscal Responsibility) • Monitor changes in the telecommunications regulatory arena and access services (Economic Development and Telecommunications) Financial Comments No significant changes are proposed for the funding for this division. Payments for access television support, received from Charter Cable of approximately $61,000, will be dedicated for governmental access purposes and will now contribute rental fees associated with the cablecasting of City meetings. Cell site license revenues of approximately $130,000 are received annually and are distributed to the park maintenance fund and water fund accordingly.
