Division Description Under this budget activity, the Community Services Maintenance Team is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 60 maintained acres consisting mainly of City parks, bicycle and walking trails, and the Civic Center campus. The Team also manages maintenance of over 300 acres of City owned open space, primarily weed abatement for fire prevention. Small projects to beautify facilities and provide amenities to the campuses are also performed by Park maintenance team to enhance the public areas used by our residents. FY 2016-17 and 2017-18 Accomplishments • Continued to reduce water consumption for City Parks in response to the drought conditions • Landscaped an area in front of the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center and added tables to allow areas for visitors to congregate and eat outside the facility • Refreshed parks Tot-Lot areas with engineered wood fiber • Initiated a pilot project to determine if chemical free weed abatement could be financially feasible and sustainable • Entered contractual relationships to help maintain new Downtown parks FY 2018-19 and 2019-20 Activity Goals • Continue to monitor and manage landscape water use, maintaining compliance with permanent water restrictions (Regional Initiatives, Protecting the Environment, Maintain Fiscal Responsibility) • Continue the focus on park safety including repairs to play equipment, irrigation systems, and ball field maintenance (Enhance Public Safety, Supporting Youth, Seniors and Entire Community, Infrastructure) • Incorporate asphalt walking trails and other asphalt walkways into existing sealing program (Enhancing Public Safety, Infrastructure) • Continue to explore weed abatement programs and options to reduce use of chemicals (Protecting the Environment) • Continue to focus on increasing accessibility to all users of parks (Supporting Youth, Seniors and Entire Community)
