Workers’ Compensation (continued)

FY 2018-19 and 2019-20 Activity Goals •

Partner with the TPA to conduct a training for new supervisors and managers on workers' compensation procedures (Fostering a Positive Organizational Culture, Maintaining Fiscal Responsibility, Preserving and Cultivating Public Trust) • Continue to conduct preventive ergonomic evaluations for new employees and for employees who change workstations (Fostering a Positive Organizational Culture, Maintaining Fiscal Responsibility) • Meet quarterly with TPA to review open claims, status to date, and action plan (Maintaining Fiscal Responsibility, Preserving and Cultivating Public Trust) • Meet annually with TPA for a program review of the fiscal year activity and maintain an assertive position in monitoring the activities of the TPA to close cases as soon as appropriate (Maintaining Fiscal Responsibility, Preserving and Cultivating Public Trust) Financial Comments As of February 28, 2018, the City filed 15 new claims in FY 2017-18. The biggest accomplishment so far in FY 2017-18 is the settlement of several claims by compromise and release. While the payout on these settlements is substantial ($316,600), the City has closed out the future reserve exposure on the claims. The net result for the City is a reduction in the open inventory of claims which resulted in a reduction in the future reserves from $808,913 to $312,196. Human Resources will continue to provide ergonomic evaluations which will be funded by the workers’ compensation fund. Beginning in FY 2018-19, purchases for recommended ergonomic equipment (i.e. sit-stand desks, keyboards, adjustable ergonomic chairs) will be funded through individual department budgets.
