Division Description Under this budget activity, the Community Services Maintenance Team is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 60 maintained acres consisting mainly of City parks, bicycle and walking trails, and the Civic Center campus. The Team also manages maintenance of over 300 acres of City owned open space, primarily weed abatement for fire prevention. Small projects to beautify facilities and provide amenities to the campuses are also performed by the Park maintenance team to enhance the public areas used by our community. FY 2018-19 and 2019-20 Accomplishments • Eliminated the use of glyphosate in all parks on a trial basis in 2020 • Installed new inclusive fitness equipment at Galvan Park • Resealed the West Little Llagas Creek walking trail • Continued to reduce water consumption for City Parks in response to the City’s water usage restrictions FY 2020-21 and 2021-22 Activity Goals • Continue to explore weed abatement programs and options to reduce use of chemicals (Protecting the Environment) • Continue to focus on park safety including repairs to play equipment, irrigation systems and ball field maintenance (Supporting our Youth, Seniors, and Entire Community; Maintaining Infrastructure) • Begin maintenance of the Morgan Hill Magical Bridge Inclusive Playground at Community Park (Supporting our Youth, Seniors, and Entire Community) • Explore alternative options for management of the City’s Open Space (Maintaining Infrastructure; Fiscal Sustainability) Financial Comments Due to the elimination of the City’s Residential Growth Control System by recent State Legislation (SB330), the dedicated funding source for Park Maintenance will be eliminated within the next two years. Effective FY 2020-21, Park Maintenance will be funded from the General Fund (010). The remaining dollars in the Park Maintenance Fund (302) will be transferred to the general fund at a set amount annually. The transfer from the Park Maintenance Fund is $650,000 in FY 2020-21 and FY 2021-22.
