Division Description Code Compliance, under supervision of the Building Official, performs a variety of technical duties in support of the City’s local code enforcement program; monitors and enforces a variety of applicable ordinances, codes, and regulations related to zoning, land use, nuisance housing, building codes, health and safety, blight, graffiti, water waste, and other matters of public concern; and serves as a resource and provides information on City regulations to property owners, residents, businesses, the general public, and other City departments and divisions.
Common concerns and complaints can be: • Work without permits • Home occupations • Junk/debris in the front yard • Structures (illegal garage conversions, additions, accessory structures) • Maintenance of premises (commercial and residential) • Overgrown vegetation and weeds • Homeless encampments on private property • Street vendors • Sign enforcement • Noise complaints
FY 2020-21 and 2021-22 Accomplishments • During FY 2020-21 through the beginning of the third quarter of FY 2021-22, 558 code compliance cases were opened, 403 cases were closed • Adapted safety protocols and remote work procedures due to the pandemic • Utilized technology such as cell phone video and pictures for remote inspections on minor violations • Continued to work on homeless encampment cleanups on private property • Created new annual inspection program for massage establishments FY 2022-23 and 2023-24 Activity Goals • Continue to use the full functionality of TRAKiT to effectively manage code compliance cases (Fostering a Positive Organizational Culture) • Continue to look for new ways to streamline and improve code compliance methods and procedures (Preserving and Cultivating Public Trust) • Continue to update/modify the policies and procedures manual for code compliance (Preserving and Cultivating Public Trust) • Continue to work with property owners on homeless encampment cleanups (Affordable Housing and Homelessness)
