Police Field Operations (continued) Officers engaged in Community Policing activities to include but not limited to Park Place, Downtown on bicycle patrol, Outdoor Movie Series, Farmer’s Market, and other community event Partnered with teammates, County, and faith-based organizations to apply best practices for unhoused population Provided training for all legislatively mandated and collateral trainings for all officers Hired two police cadets for the Cadet Ambassador Program. Cadets engaged in positive police contacts, resolved quality of life issues, deterred crime from occurring and reported incidents of crime to police officers Promoted three Sergeants and two Corporals Provided Autism Awareness, LGBTQ/Sensitivity, and De-escalation/Intervention Training to Department personnel Purchased and Implemented Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) System Traffic Division purchased two motorcycles with increased safety features Traffic Division’s enforcement efforts city-wide along with COVID have reduced traffic collisions by an average of 43% in comparison to the previous three years Developed and implemented the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT). PERT provides crisis resolution and proactive outreach connecting people to appropriate behavioral health services Created a Crime Prevention Unit to improve safety by engaging residents in crime prevention efforts Continued to develop and implement safety protocols and procedures for response to calls for service, department holding cells, and prisoner transport due to COVID-19 Shelter in Place Orders Officers have been trained in the administration of NARCAN to combat fentanyl and carry AED’s in each patrol vehicle which has resulted in saving no fewer than 7 lives More than 150 firearms were taken off the streets FY 2022-23 and 2023-24 Activity Goals Hire five police officers to fill current vacancies in Field Operations (Enhancing Public Safety) Hire a Multi-Services Officer to fill vacancy (Enhancing Public Safety; Fostering Positive Organizational Culture) Continue to Interrupt Crime Trends by deploying resources to hot spots identified through an analysis of crime data (Enhancing Public Safety) Strengthen partnership with Mental Health Staff/PERT to address chronic clients in need of resources (Enhancing Public Safety; Supporting Our Youth, Seniors and Entire Community)
