Division Description The Special Operations Division is led by the Special Operations Captain. The Division is responsible for coordinating major investigations, special event operations, coordinating internal investigations and providing police services to the City's schools. There are nine detectives, one Sergeant, and one part-time youth diversion specialist, and one part time graffiti civilian assigned to this Division. The Detectives perform varied tasks that include investigation of the following: person crimes, property crimes, domestic violence/missing persons, narcotics/gangs, internet crimes against children, special event coordination, and press releases. In addition to these investigators, one detective is assigned as a School Resource Officer (SRO), one detective is assigned to the Regional Auto Theft Task Force (RATTF), and one officer is funded and assigned to a Department of Justice Law Enforcement Tobacco Grant as a Community Tobacco Enforcement Officer. The SRO is dedicated to the Morgan Hill Unified School District (MHUSD or District). The officer works directly with students and faculty to engage in positive police contacts and to prevent or intervene in on-campus incidents. The SRO also facilitates the Parent Project, Run-Hide Defend, and "Why Did You Stop Me?" classes. The District contributes $130,000 annually toward the SRO's total compensation. RATTF is stationed in Campbell and is dedicated to investigating auto theft related crimes throughout Santa Clara County. Starting in 2017, RATTF increased the salary contribution for the Officer assigned in the task force from 42% to 50% of the Officer's total compensation. The Community Tobacco Enforcement Officer is dedicated to youth prevention, intervention, and education of tobacco and vaping dangers. The Officer is also responsible for enforcing the City’s ordinance prohibiting flavored tobacco sales and sales of tobacco/vaping products to youth. The Officer's salary is fully funded through a California Department of Justice Law Enforcement Tobacco Grant. Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team (SCCSET) is stationed in Campbell and is an all -crimes task force that investigates drug sales, homicides, robberies and conducts mobile surveillance. Currently, the Department contributes $10,000 a year to be a participating agency. As an active member of this task force, the Police Department can leverage the team and their resources to investigate crimes.
