Economic Development (continued)  Tourism: Promote the Visit Morgan Hill (VMH) video, increasing its visibility with social media and a paid media campaigns. Work with wine industry, hotel brands and VMH to promote tourism and increase room night stays. Partner and support VMH initiatives  Retail Concentration Strategy : Develop data and a supporting policy to strengthen retail nodes and identify requirements that pose impediments for retail and identify areas where retail is not likely to succeed. Work with commercial brokers and shopping center owners to better utilize available property to optimize commercial/retail lands  Jobs/Housing Balance: Engage with an outside consultant to study Morgan Hill’s current job/housing ratio and develop information as to what it means to create a sustainable local economy and maintain quality of life  Downtown Parking Study & Improvements: Coordinate with the planning and engineering divisions to make minor enhancements in the Downtown parking to support both new short term parking and/or new accessible parking spaces  Economic Blueprint : Update 2017 Economic Blueprint  Fee Freeze Program : Provide an update to City Council and develop program modifications as an ongoing City program. Bring forward individual fee freeze proposals to support increased development activity  Sewer/Traffic Fee Agreements – Where appropriate, support new business development and expansion with sewer and traffic fee financing agreements  OpenCounter: Clean-up zoning within OpenCounter application, create more links to the portal, and promote OpenCounter as a tool for the Community  Events, Marketing, and Promotions : Build on the success of previous Choose Morgan Hill events and continue to enhance the economic development conversation at a local level. Host a Commercial Broker Bus Tour and conduct annual Manufacturing Day activities  Marketing & Communications: o Enhance the Choose Morgan Hill website by increasing blog posts and available commercial sites o Reinvest in a marketing campaign with the Silicon Valley Business Journal to promote Morgan Hill as the location of choice for expanding technology, research & development, and professional office employers o Continue monthly eNewsletter and grow subscription and open rates o Proactively develop and push-out press releases timed to major projects or significant announcements o Increase social media presence and postings o Provide quarterly ED Metrics to City Council and external audiences o Provide data and statistics to support continued economic development efforts and quality of life initiatives
