Economic Development (continued) Marketing & Communications: Enhanced the Choose Morgan Hill website by adding a blog feature which highlights businesses and key economic development projects. Introduced new social media handles and a blog for promotion. Launched a marketing campaign with the Silicon Valley Business Journal to promote the Economic Blueprint and leveraged $15,000 of private sector funding to complement the campaign. Implemented a digital campaign with Hearst Communication highlighting the four Economic Blueprint industries. Fee Freeze Agreement Program: In fiscal year 2018-2019, the Impact Fee Freeze program was rebranded and launched to stimulate new commercial and industrial development. Under the program 6 agreements were approved, with 3 projects breaking ground and an additional two projects finalizing plans to break ground. Transportation: Continue to engage with the High Speed Rail project and Caltrain 2040 Business Planning process. Provided letters advocting the City’s position on both projects. Continue to partner with VTA and South County representatives to align goals on transportation-related projects and advocacy. FY 2020-21 and 2021-22 Activity Goals Economic Development will focus on completing the action items listed in the City’s 2017 Economic Blueprint. The City’s ED efforts will continue to focus on creating fiscal sustainability by growing existing companies, attracting new industry, and growing professional jobs; advancing goals for Healthcare, Retail and Tourism and continue to provide assistance supporting the business community and strategies, projects and policies that enhance the community’s quality of life. Below are some of the key efforts for the upcoming fiscal years: Industrial Preservation Policy: Update the Industrial Lands Analysis and develop a fiscal analysis of industrial areas that will help shape land use decisions that protect the job creating lands, further strengthening the General Plan (Fiscal Sustainability, Economic Development) Retail Concentration Strategy : Develop a policy to strengthen retail nodes and identify requirements that pose impediments for retail and identify areas where retail is not likely to succeed (Economic Development) Property Business Improvement District : Work with the Downtown businesses to create a Business Improvement District for property improvements, marketing, and promotion for Downtown (Economic Development) High Speed Rail : Respond to High Speed Rail’s Environmental Impact Report/Study and advocate for mitigations including grade separations for traffic and circulation safety (Transportation, Advancing Regional Initiatives) Telecommunications RFP : Commence contract negotiations with service provider to service City facilities and explore enhanced connectivity to residential and commercial neighborhoods (Fiscal Sustainability, Economic Development)
