Economic Development (continued)  Launched the First Annual Choose Morgan Hill Speaker Series: Planned and executed a total of 5 speaker series events in the late fall. Each discussion was focused on the business sectors that drive the Morgan Hill economy: economic development overview, retail, innovation & advanced manufacturing and healthcare. Each speaker series event had experts and industry leaders that shared their thoughts on successes, challenges and opportunities facing their sector.  Provided Business Assistance to small and large businesses: Worked with several existing and new companies to address City regulations, workforce development, ADA regulations and other issues. Businesses included: SunBasket, A Jays, Kettle Cuisine, My Pizza, Yoga One, Toni’s Kitchen, Digital Storm, Lawson’s Bakery, Chevron Gas Station.  Provided Development Assistance to over a dozen commercial and industrial projects: Collaborated to attract new commercial and industrial development that resulted in multiple new projects that are through various stages of entitlements and construction, including: Carpenter’s Training Center Expansion, Applied Motion Products, Shoe Palace Expansion, Granary Expansion, Level 10 Construction, Golden State Assembly Expansion, Techcon Corporation Expansion, Evergreen Village Shopping Center, Cochrane Commons Phase II, Madrone Spec Building, Fairfield Inn & Home2Suites, Butterfield Technology Park, Lumber Yard-Latala Mixed Use Project, Morgan Hill Technology Park, and Lillian Commons.  Updated Small Cell Zoning: Updated the City’s Wireless Ordinance to address a recent ruling by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requiring the City to identify Small Cell Design Standards for public right-of-way by April 15, 2019. The new ordinance supports the City’s desire to increase broadband opportunities in the City and meet’s the FFC Order for streamlining the permitting for wireless antennas within 60 days of application for existing poles and 90 days for new poles.  Telecommunications: Issued a Request for Proposals for broadband services for the City of Morgan Hill. The RFP also sought partnerships for community investments serving residential and commercial customers. Approved form-based Master License Agreements with Verizon and Extenet supporting the deployment of small cells on City Street lights. Approved a new equipment shelter that will aid in the deployment of fiber to homes in southern Morgan Hill and the unincorporated county.  Launched a new Tourism Based Improvement District: Collaborated with hotels and community stakeholders to create a Tourism Improvement District which is expected to generate approximately $400,000 annually for the promotions of the area as a tourism destination. The team is actively supporting the new Visit Morgan Hill Board that began a Strategic Planning process and funded the Tourism Symposium with over 100 attendees.  Partnerships/Events: Led the 2 nd and 3 rd annual regional Economic Development Symposium under the Silicon Valley Economic Development Alliance (SVEDA) umbrella in partnership with ICSC and ULI. This year, Morgan Hill’s Economic Development Manager was appointed chair for SVEDA’s 2019/20 term. Hosted Manufacturing Day in partnership with MHUSD, the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce and several local employers.
