Division Description The Geographic Information Systems Division (GIS) is part of the Administrative Services Department and provides geographic mapping and spatial data analysis and management Citywide. This division was created in 2017 and is managed by the GIS Manager who reports to the Assistant to the City Manager. The City recognized the importance of GIS by funding a new position in the Fiscal Year 16-17 budget. The GIS Manager was hired in June of 2017 to oversee the design, operation and administration of the Citywide GIS infrastructure. The GIS Manager is in the process of building an Enterprise GIS Program that integrates GIS with each City department. The current City GIS capabilities were assessed, and a GIS program vision for the City was developed. Our City GIS capabilities will continue to expand as the City invests in appropriate hardware, software integration and applications, and staff training. GIS is a key technology, and improvements in GIS capabilities will boost productivity for many City departments. FY 2018-19 and 2019-20 Accomplishments Implementation of the City’s new Enterprise GIS system is complete with infrastructure and software licensing building blocks in place. Governance: Developed the City’s first strategic plan for GIS. This is a 3-year plan that includes detailed tactical plan tasks (Enhancing Public Safety, Protecting the Environment, Supporting our Community, Fostering a Positive Organization Culture, Preserving and Cultivating Public Trust) Data and Databases: Contracted with County consortium to acquire new aerial imagery and LiDAR for the City over the next three years ((Enhancing Public Safety, Protecting the Environment, Supporting our Community, Preserving and Cultivating Public Trust) Completed data review with Principal City Planner to improve the accuracy of General Plan and zoning mapping (Supporting our Community, Preserving and Cultivating Public Trust) Began work on a new central data store for City GIS data (Infrastructure, Fostering a Positive Organization Culture) Procedures, Workflow and Integration: Integration of Enterprise GIS with utilities application Sedaru coming in FY 19-20 (Infrastructure, Enhancing Public Safety, Protecting the Environment, Supporting our Community, Fostering a Positive Organization Culture) GIS Software: The City’s first Enterprise GIS software agreement is now in place- a 3-year contract (Infrastructure) Worked with IT teammates to update all desktop GIS users to a current, supported version
