Division Description The Geographic Information Systems Division (GIS) is part of the Administrative Services Department and provides geographic mapping and spatial data analysis and management citywide. This is a new division managed by the GIS Manager and reporting to the Assistant City Manager for Administrative Services. The City recognized the importance of geographic information services by funding a new position through a decision package in the Fiscal Years 2016-17 and 2017-18 budget. The GIS Manager was hired in June 2017 to oversee the design, operation, and administration of the citywide GIS infrastructure. Prior to hiring the new position, GIS services were provided by a City Planner on a part-time basis, as well as other teammates using GIS on a more limited basis. The GIS Manager is in the process of establishing a GIS Program that integrates GIS with each City department.
