Division Description The Geographic Information Systems Division (GIS) is part of the Public Services Department and provides geographic mapping and spatial data analysis citywide. This division was created in 2017 and is managed by the GIS Administrator who reports to the Public Services Director. The GIS Administrator oversees the operation of GIS services and is building an Enterprise GIS Program that integrates GIS with each City department. GIS is a key technology, and improvements in GIS capabilities will boost productivity for many City departments. Governance: • A GIS/Public Services group that meets regularly to discuss GIS needs, projects and planning has been organized • GIS submittal standards for developer plans were put in place Data and Databases: • A master address database for emergency response has been produced • The City has acquired new aerial imagery and LiDAR • The new central data store for City GIS data has been completed • Data improvements to Utilities sewer, water and stormwater database were reviewed and are ongoing, and changes were made to data and data structure to facilitate business system integration Procedures, Workflow, and Integration: • Integration of Enterprise GIS with utilities application Sedaru is complete • Integration of Enterprise GIS with Utilities wastewater software POSM is complete • Assisting Maintenance teammates and vendor to integrate Cityworks with Enterprise GIS is in progress • Integration of Enterprise GIS with Planning/Building TrakIT application. GIS Software: • A new internal web map called CityMaps was created using current software to replace the City’s MHMaps application • Implementation of the new GeoHub application has begun. GeoHub combines public Open Data and internal City data sharing through internal and external data access. Increased information sharing via the City website, Cityworks, and other applications suggested a rescoping of the My Government Services task in favor of the new GeoHub technology.
