3.0 Scope:

This policy applies to all City of Morgan Hill employees who are not otherwise required by their job function to wear uniforms, safety equipment, job specific functional clothing or other safety clothing.

4.0 Policy:

The professional atmosphere at City facilities and the public's perception that they are receiving professional services are maintained, in part, by the image that employees present. To promote a professional image, employees should dress according to the requirements of their particular duties. The City trusts its employees to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers without feeling confined to traditional Business Professional attire daily. While professionalism remains paramount, this policy offers the flexibility to dress for your day. The City encourages employees to dress using professional judgment and consider that all employees represent the City of Morgan Hill. Dress for your day allows employees to adapt their attire to their daily schedule. Business Professional attire is preferred and expected for meetings with boards, commissions, City Council, external dignitaries, or oral boards; however, jeans are acceptable for most workdays. This policy aims for simplicity: consider your daily activities and dress accordingly. 4.1 Professional Presentation: As a City of Morgan Hill representative, you are expected to maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance that aligns with your position, assigned tasks, and scheduled events. 4.2 Employees required to wear uniforms shall comply with standards of attire established within their department, division, and job function. 4.3 Flexibility and Context: The definition of "appropriate attire" varies based on the day and your specific role. When choosing your outfit, consider planned interactions with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, applicants, vendors, visitors, guests, commissions, City Council, and City-wide events. 4.4 Business Casual: Business Casual attire is acceptable on regular workdays in an office setting. This includes collared shirts, polo shirts, blouses, sweaters, slacks, denim pants (provided they are neat, clean, hemmed, free of holes, or excessive wear), khakis, skirts, and dresses. In order to maintain a polished and professional image, casual clothing, such as shirts with large lettering, graphics or logos, spaghetti strap tops and dresses, halter tops, off the shoulder tops, shorts, leggings, sweats, hoodies, crop top, bib overalls, workout/athletic clothing, non city logo hats, and distressed or damaged items, tight fitting wear are not allowed. Undergarments should not be visible. 4.5 Footwear: Loafers, boots, flats, dressy sandals, sneakers, and athletic shoes are acceptable in some departments. However, the following are unacceptable: flip flops/slides, beach sandals, slippers or slipper boots (e.g. Uggs) (except in designated jobs with functional purpose, ex. lifeguards).
